The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center is a national nonprofit organization that provides practical, nonpartisan, research-driven strategies and tools to increase public safety and strengthen communities. In general, the CSG Justice Center works closely with government executives, legislative leaders, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, victim advocates, and others to develop consensus on various criminal justice issues and to translate this consensus into comprehensive reports, policy briefs, state and federal legislation, model policies, and innovative programs. The CSG Justice Center develops written and web-based materials, conducts complex data analysis, and provides on-the-ground technical assistance to policymakers and practitioners from multiple systems (corrections, behavioral health, law enforcement, etc.) in states and local jurisdictions.


The information analyst is responsible for maintaining the CSG Justice Center's internal data management system, efficiently producing a range of reports from within that system, conducting new capability/technology assessments and implementations in the area of information storage and organization, and providing specific solutions to the agency's day-to-day information management needs and challenges.


Manage information assets:

  • Create and maintain blueprints that illustrate how information assets are stored, processed, and accessed across the organization;
  • Actively participate in strategic organizational discussions and problem solving regarding data, systems, and information flow;
  • Identify, recommend, implement, and support organization with systems and methods for managing and integrating structured and unstructured information across the agency;
  • Develop documentation for best practices regarding data storage and access; and
  • Train staff on data storage solutions.

 Maintain unique and proprietary internal data management information system (Fluxx):

  • Develop and update system architecture and workflows;
  • Manage database access;
  • Maintain database integrity by setting and enforcing standards, controls, and security protocols;
  • Design and implement maintenance procedures;
  • Conduct trainings for new employees;
  • Conduct regular refresher trainings for all staff;
  • Develop written training, documentation, and operating manuals;
  • Oversee annual input of new grantee contacts and information;
  • Export information for funder requests, as well as cross-divisional collaboration;
  • Troubleshoot user difficulties and system errors;
  • Identify areas for improvement and work with program directors and program staff to develop solutions;
  • Work with policy staff to identify areas where data collection and reporting can enhance policy objectives;
  • Keep up to date on new database features and functionality and provide recommendations for utilization; and
  • Communicate with database developers and users to oversee/implement database updates and third-party application software, when applicable.

 Design and oversee data collection practices that ensure compliance with funder reporting requirements:

  • Lead internal grant mapping process from grant proposal submission to final report;
  • Manage data elements of grant reporting, including tracking and reporting grant activities to the federal Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Training and Technical Assistance Reporting Portal;
  • Compile data and report grant activity on a regular basis for use in reporting;
  • Train in the use of funder data portals and reporting mechanisms and configure database reports to meet requirements; and
  • Define reporting deadlines and outline parameters for reporting grant activity.

 Quality assurance:

  • Conduct audits of staff activity and system use;
  • Develop semi-annual reports of program and policy work;
  • Reconcile information reported to funders with the information that exists in database;
  • Lead regular data inspections and cleanings; and
  • Occasional data entry when necessary.

  • Ability to maintain a consistent workday schedule and work cooperatively and effectively with staff colleagues and management;
  • Ability to classify, prepare, enter, and code information with a high level of detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff in a clear and concise manner;
  • Strong office management and computer skills, including but not limited to Windows and Mac operating systems, the Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge in web applications.


The ideal candidate will have at least three years of professional experience, specifically working in a combination of data, information, and systems management. Experience with Fluxx database preferred.


A college degree is preferred, ideally in the area of information systems, operational or social science research, mathematics, electronics, or computer studies or software/computer engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
