The National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501(c)(3) association dedicated to enhancing public safety by improving the nation's ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all emergencies, disasters, and threats to our nation's security. NEMA is the professional association of and for emergency management directors from all 50 states, eight U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. NEMA is an affiliate of The Council of State Governments (CSG).

This opportunity is based in our Lexington, KY office but offers flexibility to work from home part of the work week.

JOB SUMMARY

The Communications and Marketing Associate supports communications, marketing, and membership services for the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA), an affiliate organization of The Council of State Governments (CSG). Duties include implementation of marketing and communications strategies; writing, designing, and disseminating the association's educational and promotional publications and materials; social media presence and website content. The Communications and Marketing Assistant collaborates with other association staff and stakeholders to promote NEMA's resources, events, programs and policy work. The Communications and Marketing Associate reports to the Marketing and Events Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Collaborate with association staff to develop, vet, and distribute to key audiences print and electronic (web, email, photo, video) communications content to promote and raise awareness of association events, member resources, and engagement opportunities.
  • Enhance and maintain association social media platforms - write and post relevant content; schedule messaging; track references; and share information of interest.
  • Assist with posting, updating and maintaining association website content.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing and Events Director, develop and implement an annual marketing plan.
  • Develop and distribute external communications with members and partner organizations, including working with association staff to design and write newsletters, publications, reports, and other products.
  • Work with the Marketing and Events Director to conduct new member outreach and onboarding; answer membership inquiries; assist with ensuring membership database is current.
  • Identify trends and best practices in the areas of membership services and marketing.
  • Assist with coordination and promotion of association activities such as conferences, webinars, and virtual meetings.
  • Support and promote association grant projects and other special initiatives, including on-site staffing.
  • Support program and policy staff as needed.

  • Ability to identify opportunities to increase speed, efficiency, and quality of processes.
  • Ability to develop proficiency in licensed and open-source applications and programs, as needed.
  • Excellent written, verbal, digital and website communication skills.
  • Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related degree required;
  • Two years of work experience in communications and/or marketing, to include business social media and websites.
  • Experience with elected or appointed officials and/or non-profit sector preferred.

COMPENSATION

CSG believes that pay equity and pay transparency advance workplace fairness. Compensation will be equitable and based on experience. The salary range for this position based in Lexington, KY is $41,900 to $54,000. This salary range is subject to change based on work location and market conditions.
