Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be performed remotely on a temporary basis until CSG deems it appropriate to return to an office setting. At that time, the incumbent for this position will be required to perform work from an assigned office

Job Summary

As a key member of the payroll department, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration of all payroll and human resource procedures associated with processing a multi-state payroll of 250+ employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the administration of all payroll and human resource procedures associated with processing a multi-state payroll of 250+ employees. Serve as back-up payroll administrator for payroll manager.
  • Assist payroll manager in processing timesheets, maintaining employee profiles, and posting accruals in the electronic timesheet system.
  • Maintain project updates in timesheet system and payroll system as requested from Accounting staff.
  • Perform initial verification and balance of payroll journal for the semi-monthly payroll.
  • Balance general ledger to payroll journal.
  • Assist payroll and human resources in processing all salary and benefits changes.
  • Responsible for balancing monthly transmissions of health, dental, vision, life & disability insurances.
  • Responsible for submitting retirement files and funds to TIAA-CREF and KRS in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining all deductions related to benefits (Health, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance, Credit Union, Retirement, Flexible Spending, etc.) in a computerized payroll system.
  • Assist in tracking all related records (taxes, leave, deductions, etc.).
  • Assist with balancing all liability and leave accounts while processing check requests and making all necessary refunds, adjustments, journal entries, etc. to the payroll records and general ledger.
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with Federal and State payroll laws and regulations.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees.
  • Prepare employee verifications.
  • Create and maintain employee information and personnel files.
  • Assist with W-2 preparation and multi-state payroll tax preparation.

Skills & Abilities

  • Detail oriented for purposes of ensuring an error free payroll.
  • High competence in math with an analytical mindset.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel to perform calculations and analyze data.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to effectively and accurately present information and respond to inquiries from employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting and basic journal entries.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Associates degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Four years of payroll experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preference for experience with a multi-state, in-house payroll that interfaces with a complex general ledger.
