JOB SUMMARY

The digital communications associate works as an important part of the communications staff at The Council of State Governments National Headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky. Reporting to the assistant director of communications, this position will lead CSG's digital and online presence and serve as the voice for the organization through the company's website and social media channels as well as potential podcasts, videos and webinars. Working with state governments across the U.S. can be unique and challenging. The digital communications associate elevates the mission of the organization through finding creative solutions to reach and interact with CSG members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Digital Communications Associate will:

  • Plan a solid content strategy with deliberate goals for CSG's social media marketing.
  • Design digital media campaigns and associated digital content aligned with the organization's goals.
  • Develop brand awareness and an online reputation with the goal of turning members into advocates for CSG and serving as an advocate for our members.
  • Collaborate with the communications team on content management for both social media and the website.
  • Assist the web designer and assistant director of communications with online analytics, generation of inbound traffic and SEO (search engine optimization).
  • Keep up with social and digital marketing "best practices" and continually update accounts to fit the needs of the organization.
  • Create unique and creative mediums to disseminate information to members including motion graphic videos, podcasts and digitally interactive elements for social media and the web.
  • As a member of the communications team, assist with graphic design as needed and ensure brand consistency and accuracy in all publications, marketing materials and digital content.
  • Think digitally on behalf of the communications team, constantly working to reinvent content for best delivery through the website and social media channels.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Social media management on platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including but not limited to inDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including but not limited to Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to write, create and produce motion graphic videos for social media platforms.
  • Ability to record soundbites and video of members at events and produce into short videos for social media platforms.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and self-direct creative projects.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and manage deadlines.
  • Ability to work with and communicate to professional audiences including elected officials.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Two years' work experience in the fields of communications, social media management, marketing, or video production required.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in the fields of Communications, English, Journalism or a related field.

  • Frequently communicates with customers, co-workers, and visitors in person, on the telephone, and on the computer.
  • Occasionally lifts objects weight up to twenty-five (25) pounds when moving office equipment/supplies.
  • Some lifting, moving and physical labor required during offsite meetings including setup of multi-media equipment
  • Some longs days standing/walking during offsite meetings.
  • Frequently remains in a sitting position.
