The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center is a national nonprofit organization that provides practical, nonpartisan, research-driven strategies and tools to increase public safety and strengthen communities. In general, the CSG Justice Center works closely with government executives, legislative leaders, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, victim advocates, and others to develop consensus on various criminal justice issues and to translate this consensus into comprehensive reports, policy briefs, state and federal legislation, model policies, and innovative programs. The CSG Justice Center develops written and web-based materials, conducts complex data analysis, and provides on-the-ground technical assistance to policymakers and practitioners from multiple systems (corrections, behavioral health, law enforcement, etc.) in states and local jurisdictions.


The grants manager works with the budget director on all contract- and grants-related issues.  The person in this position works with all four of the CSG Justice Center offices, as well as The Council of State Governments headquarters office to oversee the grants and compliance operations of the CSG Justice Center.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:                                

  • Report to staff on a monthly basis regarding grants ending, reports due to funders, and contracts expiring;
  • Work closely with funders, subcontractors, and headquarters to ensure accurate and timely billing, payments, and renewal of agreements;
  • Build budgets and submit proposals for grants;
  • Track deliverables associated with grants/contracts;
  • In conjunction with headquarters' legal department, draft contracts;
  • Maintain sub-awards and letters of agreement and maintain necessary databases;
  • Implement new systems for managing reports and communicate financial information to CSG Justice Center staff;
  • Maintain contract and grant award files;
  • In conjunction with headquarters, ensure financial compliance with federal regulations and foundation guidelines, as applicable;
  • Coordinate with headquarters in preparing and reporting financial information to funders; and
  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Finance & Accounting.



  • The ability to handle sensitive materials;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Detail oriented; and
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formula writing.



At least 2-3 years of experience managing grants in a nonprofit setting, including direct experience in contracts and compliance.



Bachelor's degree required.


Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a generous benefits package.
