How you'll fit in:

The policy analyst will assist with researching and developing policy options for each of the 50 states, outlining how policymakers can mitigate the collateral consequences of convictions and reduce barriers to economic opportunity for people with criminal records. Policy options will help make the case for addressing structural barriers to work and outline the steps each state could take to improve economic mobility for people with criminal histories. The policy analyst will help develop tailored education and outreach plans for states and provide additional policy analysis to support implementation of policy recommendations.


What you'll do:

Specific responsibilities of the policy analyst include the following:

  • Assess opportunities for economic mobility initiatives in individual states.
  • Gather, review, and analyze legislation relating to collateral consequences and other statutory/regulatory provisions that affect economic mobility for people with criminal records.
  • Develop/expand a knowledge base on the impact of a criminal record on reentry, particularly on employment.
  • Prepare policy recommendations in the form of policy briefs, slide decks, memos, etc.
  • Strategize with team members on ways of promoting policy recommendations.
  • Provide state-based technical assistance to multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ensure that senior staff and other colleagues are aware of relevant project development.
  • Participate actively in team discussions and strategic planning meetings.
  • Travel to jurisdictions or conferences as necessary to achieve project goals.

What you'll bring:

  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse people in different contexts and foster equity and inclusion through self-awareness, cultural sensitivity, and valuing others
  • Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing CSG Justice Center duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds
  • At least three years of work experience in the field of criminal justice or equivalent educational achievement in a related field
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Ability to conduct statutory research and translate information into user-friendly language
  • Organized and great attention to detail with high level policymakers and stakeholders
  • Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively present complex information in a concise and accessible way
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including an ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Able to quickly prioritize competing deadlines and confidently manage workload
  • Positive attitude and ability to adapt to a changing environment

CSG believes that pay equity and pay transparency advance workplace fairness. Compensation will be equitable and based on experience. The salary range for this position, based in New York, is $65,475- $81,900. This salary range is subject to change based on work location and market conditions.
